The following FAQ page explains the construction details and custom options we incorporate into our hand-made Organization XIII cosplays. This page is intended for reference purposes and is part of our portfolio, but is no longer the spot to place a custom request. We -do- still offer our coats from time to time, but we have scaled back this service considerably in order to develop and explore other creative endeavors. Please check out our forum post here that details how and when our coats will be available in the future.
After unexpectedly falling in love with the Organization back in 2007, we originally began to work on designing accurate replicas of their distinctive coats for our own cosplay use...

...and after many requests, we started to help provide to others quality costumes, too. By default, our version of the coats includes the following features :

  • original pattern completely drafted by Saeru from scratch, as faithful to the in-game character model renders as reality permits.

  • custom fit to the wearer's actual measurements (not generically sized)

  • attention to specific character details (for instance, Vexen-style coats will have more flared sleeves than the standard coat, Axel-style coats will be tight all around, Xigbar-style coats will have funky shoulders, etc.)

  • real double-seams (not just top-stitching)

  • deep, functional pockets

  • our unique #30 gauge over-sized giant zipper in various color choices of black, silver, pewter or gunmetal, with two slider pulls -or- a grey #20 extra-large zipper -or- a two-way separating silver #10 large zipper.

  • a choice of either a visually accurate faux hood (in the down position, on the shoulders) or a functional hood (in the up position, over the head.)

  •  constructed out of garment vinyl from syFabrics, which...
    • holds structure and lines well
    • is softer and more comfortable than other pvcs
    • can support the weight of the coat's hardware
    • durable and easily "wipe-off" cleanable
    • photographs (with or without flash) like leather
  • Optional add-on's include :
    • hanging "hardware" set = clasp hooks, chain, beads, etc.
    • full interior coat lining
    • included leather gloves
    • plus sizes (anything over 42" chest circumference)

OPTION CHOICE = Zipper Selection

The base coat by default includes one over-sized molded-tooth #30 zipper (of the appropriate length) with a choice of one or two slider pulls, in a choice of various tones. The extra-large #30 zips are great for their uniqueness and their ability to be visually read well both from stage and in photos - plus they are size accurate to the majority of the actual in-game renders (i.e Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, re:CoM and 358/2 Days.)

We now have molded silver plastic #10 zips as well! The smaller #10 zippers are fully-separating -and- have two pulls each - which are great if you'd ike to use your coat for normal wear as well as a costume. They also resemble the look of the Deep Dive movie at the end of the first Kingdom Hearts and some of the original design concepts.

New: also now available are mid-size #20 zippers, in an accurate two-pull style or a fully-separating one-pull style. These are still larger-than-normal zips, and a good choice for the Oblivion crew as seen in the original Chain of Memories.

EXTRA OPTION = Coat Hardware

Our current version (as of August 2010) includes a hand assemblage of mini-spool beads connected to a lightweight metal chain which hooks onto heavy-duty metal swivel clasp hooks, plus metal cone-topped wooden pendulums attached via metallic silver cording (they are there just for the look, and don't actually pull the hood closed...since the hood doesn't actually go up afterall.) Both the chain and swinging pendulms can be easily detached by the top clasp for transport and storage.

Just need the chain set (for a coat you already have)...? They are available for individual purchase here.

OPTION CHOICE = Hood Position

Custom Cosplay Commissions by orgXIIIorg : Kingdom Hearts II : Organization XIII coat w/ hood up

We've completed many coats that allow for the hood to be pulled up (as opposed to the "normal" style of our coats that has a decorative-only hood permanently in the down position.) This is really great for those that wish to use these coats for daily wear to stay warm and dry or those that do not wish to wear a wig while cosplaying. The trade off, however, is that when pulled down, they will not lay flat -exactly- across the shoulders as in the game. (If you noticed, even the game fudges it when anyone dehoods...by switching to completely different polygon models.) That being so, we managed to still reach a nice medium that is still recognizable and quite attractive, plus that it is possible to pull down.

We can incorporate either the aluminum or silver plastic #10 gauge zipper or our larger #20 or #30 gauge zippers into the hood-up style, just like the hood-down version.

EXTRA OPTION = Full Lining

What is the purpose of a lining? Usually it's because clothing made from natural fabrics (and sometimes from synthetic fibers) will fray at the inside seams (unless they have been serged) - so most of the time, lining is there to protect any unraveling. Lining also provides extra support to a garment made from flimsier fabrics.

For these coats, lining is not necessary. The vinyl is significant enough to not need the extra structure from a lining and will also not fray at the seams. However, a lining here will keep the inside of the coat in a cleaner condition, especially in humid weather. Having a lining simply makes the coat more comfortable and softer to wear - most notably for characters with tighter sleeves (i.e. Axel, Demyx, Xigbar.)

8-13 Cosplay Commissions : Kingdom Hearts 2 : Organization XIII coats (back)

By the way, even without a full lining included in a coat, the hood will still look like this in the back by default. The double layer of vinyl provides a better drape and also encases the distracting looking backside of the hood's sewn seams.

NOTE = We no longer schedule free-for-all commission requests for Organization coats since we had to cut back in order to develop other projects (and sleep a little)...however, we *do* still make Organization coats in a limited availabilty - generally 1 or 2 a month, as time and other work obligations permit.

As of the new system, our coat listings have appeared both on our eBay (where the final end prices have ranged from $475 to $710 thus far) and on our Etsy (which is a flat $500 to the first one to grab it.) Ocassionally, we will also offer custom coatslots (with all the same standard options as above for only $250) via FaceBook & Tumblr Reblog-Share raffle contests. Check out our forum info for further details on opportunities for this.

Be sure to keep an eye on our FaceBook page or our Tumblr blog for up-to-date info and a heads-up for when the next listing will go live.
